First Visit

We understand that your first visit can be a little overwhelming and to help you feel more comfortable here are some frequently asked questions with answers!

Where is Christ the King located and where should I park?

We are located on the north side of  Park Avenue in East Memphis between White Station and Estate (Map below).  We have entrances on both the east and west side of our property off Park Avenue and you are welcome to park in either parking lot.  Please note, the parking lot on the west side of the Church building is handicapped accessible.

Where do I enter for Worship?

Each parking lot has a double door entrance into the narthex. Greeters are waiting at each entrance to welcome you and answer your questions before worship.  UIhers will guide you to the sanctuary, give you a Worship Service Bulletin and assist you in finding a seat. (We have large print bulletins available as well as hearing assistance devices - ask the usher!) The Pastors greet the congregation at the close of the service.

What time are Services?

Our regular Sunday Schedule for worship is 8:30 am and 11:00 am.

What are worship services like?

Our worship services are both reverent and joyful. They are reverent because during the service, particularly at Holy Communion, we are meeting up with the Holy God. They are joyful because this Holy God has given His Son to forgive us so that we might be His children and worship Him. We celebrate the great Christian tradition of “liturgical worship.” We print the entire order of worship in the bulletin, including many of the hymns and readings, However, if you do become lost or confused, please lean over and ask a “neighbor” in the pew. We’re always happy to help!

Is there a "dress code"?

We believe God is more interested in your heart than what kind of clothes you wear.  You will see some people dressed up, reflecting an understanding of God's majesty, and some in jeans or more casual attire.  In any form, a Christian modesty and appropriate attire is appreciated.  We are glad you have chosen to worship at Christ the King!

What is available for children during worship?

We love having children worship with their families. We believe even young children can begin to grasp the worship service and that they learn more quickly to sit still and participate when they are welcomed into the sanctuary. There is a special time during the service for a Children's Message where children are invited to come forward. Ushers have children's bulletins available and there are "busy bags" located on hooks in the nursery to help the little ones through the harder-to understand parts of the service. We know, however, that sitting through church is sometimes difficult and we have a cry room available when needed and a staffed nursery for infants to 3 year olds. The ushers will be glad to direct you to these locations.

What is Christ the King's policy on visitors taking Communion?

In the Lord’s Supper we receive Christ’s Body and Blood, under bread and wine, for the forgiveness of sins, life and salvation. Those communing are giving public witness that they are one in doctrine. In loving obedience to this Scriptural teaching, we therefore invite communicant members of all congregations in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod to commune with us.

Is there Sunday School for children?

Each Sunday morning at 9:45 am, CTK offers various opportunities for all ages to attend Sunday School (3 yrs - 6th grade), Youth Confirmation (7th - 8th), and High School. We also have Sunday morning adult classes beginning at 10:00 am.  Check your worship bulletin for the most current classes and locations.
